Primary Purpose

The Safety Coordinator is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and continuously improving workplace safety and environmental compliance programs. This role ensures adherence to OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and state environmental requirements, while fostering a proactive safety culture across all operations.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Safety & Health
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of OSHA regulations, NJ State requirements, industry best practices, and the JPC Safety Manual.
  • Identify potential workplace hazards, conduct Job Safety Analyses (JSA), and review them with supervisors for training and job planning.
  • Perform all OSHA recommended and required training for all employees
  • Document all safety training by employees and maintain a log of required certifications and renewals.
  • Ensure all required Federal and NJ safety postings are displayed, updated, and in good condition.
  • Recommend appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and oversee PPE compliance.
  • Prepare and distribute monthly injury and safety statistics to management.
  • Lead monthly safety committee meetings: gather concerns, assign responsibilities, track corrective actions, and report results.
  • Develop and deliver new hire safety orientations; maintain written and visual training materials, ensuring annual review and updates.
  • Prepare and submit annual OSHA reports.
  • Conduct daily inspections of plant and yard areas, identify hazards, and coordinate corrective actions.
  • Investigate all incidents and accidents, prepare reports for management and insurance providers, and lead root cause analysis with the safety committee.
  • Maintain and update Safety Data Sheets (SDS/MSDS) for all materials.
  1. Environmental Protection
  • Ensure compliance with stormwater runoff permits and all DEP requirements.
  • Collect and submit stormwater samples, ensure lab analysis, and report results to DEP.
  • Serve as primary contact and escort for DEP and environmental inspections.
  • Conduct regular environmental compliance inspections and maintain documentation.

  • Follow and enforce all JPC personnel policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and leadership as a role model for employees.
  • Proactively anticipate safety and environmental challenges; recommend solutions and contingency plans.
  • Effectively manage time and organize daily activities to maximize productivity.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and management to promote a strong safety culture and continuous improvement mindset.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations, NJ State environmental regulations, and best safety practices in manufacturing/construction.
  • 3 – 5 years of experience in safety compliance within a manufacturing or precast/prestressed concrete environment preferred.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and training skills. Bilingual is preferred.
  • Ability to conduct inspections, lead meetings, and prepare clear reports.
  • Computer proficiency (MS Office, incident reporting software).
  • Certification in OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR, or equivalent preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $70K to $75K
